Sometimes when you plan things on the fly, they just don’t out turn the way you kinda hoped. That was my Monday. I really didn’t do a good job thinking about where I wanted to shoot on Monday. As a result, I chose a campsite that was further north than I should’ve been, and I lost a couple hours circling back. In addition, I didn’t feel all that well. I had a headache, and I was a little sore from the hike the day before. My motivational & creative tank was less than half full, and it was clear that it was nearly time to go home!
My only real stop was Capital Reef National Park. I took a few random shots as I came into the park, and then I hiked to Sulphur Creek Falls. The lighting was not what I would’ve liked, but I made the best of it.

Sulphur Creek Overlook — this was pretty cool.
Some interesting rock structures as you enter Capital Reef NP.
I headed back towards Hanksville, which is where I began my trip. There was one photo location I didn’t get to visit the first time, but it was late in the day, and the more I thought about it, I didn’t have enough time to do the hike, take pictures, hike back, and then get to a campsite reasonably close to where I wanted to be for the next day. Bag it!
I still wanted to do another slot canyon, and not far away was a highly rated one: Little Wild Horse Canyon. But, when I got to the access road, the gate was closed (uncheck). And, there was a sign that said 4WD vehicles with high clearance were recommended (uncheck and uncheck again). So this was out! It was now about 4 o’clock and the sun was dropping fast. What to do? I decided to head towards Moab (gateway to Arches and Canyonlands National Parks). I had totally forgotten that I had a bunch of photo spots identified in this area, including a couple “must do’s”. It was about 90 minutes away, and I had just enough time to make it to a campsite before darkness.
Monday was now behind me. I had one last day in Utah, and it was going to be a great one!
